What is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry is dentistry aimed at creating a positive change to your teeth and to your smile. Most think of tooth whitening or veneers when cosmetic dentistry comes to mind, but Smile Essentials can provide much more.
Smile Essentials can help to improve your appearance, your smile, even your self-esteem, and confidence.
Cosmetic Dentistry at Smile Essentials includes :
- Bleaching to make teeth whiter
- Repairing chips or rough spots with fillings that match your teeth
- Filling cavities with tooth-colored materials
- Reshaping teeth that don’t match the others
Bonding Or Direct composite veneers :
bonding is the process in which tooth colored materials are adhered (bonded) to the tooth. This is a procedure that can be used to repair or improve the appearance of a tooth that has been badly stained, broken or chipped.
Composite veneers are directly bonded over the teeth. Soft tooth coloured composite materials are impressed over the tooth surface, sculpted to desired shape and hardened by a powerful light. They are polished in the mouth itself. This is an immediate and quick way to fix malaligned teeth in a single sitting. Unfortunately composite veneers are not as strong as porcelain laminate veneers and tend to chip and stain over a period of time, so frequent polishing of these bondings is required!
VENEERS are extremely thin shells of artificial material that are made to fit over the front side of a patients teeth and look like natural teeth Veneers can be used to mask stains, chipped, worn, misshapen or slightly crooked teeth or gaps or spaces between teeth. Veneers may be made from porcelain, ceramic or composite resin materials.
After initial examination and evaluation, PORCELAIN VENEERS typically require two more visits, one to prepare the teeth and make impressions and second to bond the veneers to the teeth. Each of these appointments tend to take between one to two hours .During evaluation, factors like sex, age, profession, personality, skin tone, eye colour, facial features and ofcourse your expectations are considered
Once bonded the porcelain laminate veneers become an integral part of your tooth and are as strong as your natural teeth which generally require no special care! Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining such as by coffee, tea or smoking and last for many years!
You can now rejuvenate your smile in as less as two to three sittings!! Enjoy your enhanced smile without worrying about stains, everytime you sip your coffee or tea!!!
Crowns :
Crowns, also referred to as caps, are custom made to fit over your whole tooth after the dentist has prepared it. They are usually made out of acrylic or porcelain that has been fused to metal, to withstand biting pressure. Crowns can be used in cosmetic dentistry to treat teeth that are poorly shaped, badly decayed, broken or chipped, have had large fillings and to cover spaces in between teeth.
Shaping :
Also referred to as “enamel shaping” is the process in which the dentist can reshape the tooth by filing or removing some of the enamel. This process is usually not painful and can produce immediate effects
Teeth Whitening :
Over time teeth can become stained or discolored, especially after smoking, taking certain medications, or consuming foods and beverages such as coffee and tea. Using a chemical process, we can bleach your teeth in one of two ways. We can do an in-office procedure, or provide you with a system to use at home.We can create a custom mouthpiece that ensures the right amount of whitening solution reaches your teeth. You may find whitening at home more convenient. But it can take two to four weeks. In-office whitening can take place in one or more 45- to 60-minute visits.
Tooth Jewellery :
This is the latest thing to add a sparkle to your dazzling whites, you can now have a sparkling crystal glass design or something in gold or a twinkle of ruby or maybe an aquamarine blue diamond shining on your tooth. These tiny tooth accessories are great fun and add a zing to your pearlies!!!
The tooth jewellery used and the procedure for applying it are absolutely safe! The application is a very simple 15 minute procedure. Just like an orthodontic bracket, the design is bonded on to your tooth structure. You can have it removed at any time, or simply replace it with another one. Since there is no drillinginvolved (it is directly bonded to the tooth surface), it does’nt harm your teeth and is absolutely painfree!
Come to Smile Essentials and we’ll add a twinkle to your smile!
When to see an orthodontist
If you recognize any of these signs or concerns in your child or yourself, it might be time to schedule a consultation with an orthodontist.
- You want a beautiful smile
- You feel a great smile will improve your self-esteem and self-confidence
- You want the best for your family
- Early or late loss of baby teeth
- Difficulty chewing or biting
- Mouth breathing
- Sucking the thumb or fingers, or other oral habits
- Crowded, misplaced or blocked-out teeth
- Jaws that shift, make sounds, protrude or are recessed
- Speech difficulty
- Biting the cheek or biting into the roof of the mouth
- Protruding teeth
- Teeth that meet in an abnormal way or don’t meet at all
- Facial imbalance or asymmetry (features out of proportion to the rest of the face)
- Grinding or clenching of teeth
- Inability to comfortably close lips
When can orthodontic treatment start?
Treatment will not usually commence until the child is about 12 or 13 years old; when the adult teeth have come through and developed fully. In some cases treatment may start a couple of years later if teeth problems had not become noticeable beforehand.
